The Liberian State Mine is located in the southwestern region of the central Liberian State and is a large open-pit iron mine. Here, iron ore in tons will be transported from the mine to the port through the Bong Mine Railway.
The Bong Mine Railway was built by the Germans in the 1950 s and used German standards. Due to its service life, the steel bridge of the railway was seriously corroded and all the vehicles and equipment were basically scrapped,More than 90% of the sleepers need to be replaced.
After the company signed the contract for the restoration and operation of the Bong Mine Railway, it set up an overseas branch in Liberia, and made a detailed investigation of the internal and external conditions of the on-site railway and the ballast, sleeper and fuel oil required for construction, and formed a detailed restoration and operation plan in strict accordance with Chinese railway standards.
"When we first arrived here, the conditions were very difficult, but we were not afraid." Zhang Xin, manager of the Liberia branch, said that Liberia is seriously short of living and production resources, and even board houses have to be shipped from China. In the face of locomotives whose fuel system, oil system, cooling system and brake system are all damaged and difficult to repair, we have to run around and try every means to purchase all kinds of materials, tools or reprocess accessories from China, which makes it impossible. Not only that, we have to overcome the lack of medicine, acclimatization and many other difficulties.
AfterAfter six months of hard work, various tasks such as locomotive restoration, traffic organization system construction, port turnout restoration, No.1 bridge restoration, No.2 bridge reconstruction and whole line renovation were finally successfully completed.
On the opening day, a grand opening ceremony was held. The main leaders of China League, China Railway 19th Bureau, China Railway 10th Bureau and representatives of local councillors of Bong Mine attended.
