Southwest China’s first high-power new-energy locomotive has been put into operation. Wuhan Jinshenghua is leveraging green equipment to support the “dual carbon” strategy.

Release time:2026-08-04

On August 3, 2026, a major breakthrough was achieved in the green transformation of railway sidings in Southwest China. The “Xuan Kun,” a 2,000-kW high‑power all‑electric locomotive powered by new energy, commissioned by Wuhan Jinhuasheng Railway Locomotive Co., Ltd., officially entered the Yun Aluminum Logistics Park and commenced commercial operations. This model is the first of its kind in the Southwest region to receive national railway approval, filling a critical gap in high‑power, all‑electric shunting equipment for regional railway sidings and injecting green momentum into the low‑carbon transformation of modern logistics.

This commissioning ceremony, themed “Guided by the ‘Two Mountains’ Philosophy, Green‑Driven Cloud Aluminum,” was co‑hosted by Wuhan Jinhuasheng Railway Locomotive Co., Ltd., Yunnan Yunlu Logistics Investment Co., Ltd., and CRRC Ziyang Locomotive Co., Ltd. More than 30 representatives from industry players—including China Railway Logistics Leasing Co., Ltd., Xinjiang Lutiegang Group Logistics Operation Management Co., Ltd., and Hunan Liancheng Rail Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd.—as well as former senior leaders of the railway system, seasoned experts, and distinguished authorities, were invited to attend and jointly witness this pivotal moment in the green and intelligent upgrading of the Southwest China railway network.

In his address, Hu Guangjin, Chairman and General Manager of Wuhan Jinhuasheng Railway Locomotive Co., Ltd., emphasized that the successful commissioning of the “Xuan Kun” locomotive represents a significant achievement resulting from the complementary strengths and collaborative innovation of the three parties. The company remains firmly aligned with the nation’s “dual carbon” strategy, leveraging green, intelligent equipment to drive low‑carbon upgrades of railway dedicated lines and actively fulfilling its social responsibility as a private enterprise in supporting national strategic priorities. Looking ahead, the company will continue to deepen its commitment to the green railway sector, striving to deliver comprehensive, efficient, low‑carbon, and smart rail transport solutions.

In their remarks, senior leaders from Yunlv Logistics and CRRC Ziyang Locomotive highly commended the outcomes of this strategic partnership. All parties agreed that the operational deployment of the “Xuan Kun” locomotive has seamlessly integrated the entire value chain—equipment R&D, real-world application, and logistics operations—thereby establishing an integrated green collaboration framework spanning development, application, and operation. Looking ahead, they will continue to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation to drive the Southwest China railway logistics sector toward a greener, smarter, and more efficient transformation and upgrade.

In the presence of all the guests, Hu Guangjin, together with senior leaders from Yunlv Logistics and CRRC Ziyang Locomotive, jointly activated the equipment marking the project’s commissioning. As the whistle sounded long and loud, the “Xuan Kun” locomotive smoothly departed, officially commencing regular shunting operations within the industrial park.

According to reports, the newly commissioned “Xuan Kun” locomotive employs all‑electric propulsion, replacing conventional diesel‑powered systems. It boasts significant advantages—zero emissions, low noise, reduced energy consumption, and advanced智能化—fundamentally addressing the industry’s longstanding challenges of high pollution, high energy use, and elevated maintenance costs associated with traditional internal‑combustion locomotives. Calculations indicate that each unit can cut carbon emissions by 944 tonnes annually and save over one million yuan in operating expenses, delivering dual benefits in both ecological and economic terms. At the same time, it effectively enhances the operational environment within the industrial park and elevates on‑site safety standards.

Wuhan Jinhuasheng is a leading domestic private high-tech enterprise specializing in railway engineering and transportation services. It holds ISO certifications across three management systems and boasts deep industry expertise. The company has completed a total of 45 railway track‑laying projects, with over 10,000 kilometers of track laid, serving 16 provinces nationwide and implementing projects in numerous countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, thereby amassing extensive experience in cross‑border railway construction and operations.

Since 2023, the company has proactively aligned itself with the national “dual carbon” strategy and launched a comprehensive initiative to replace its in-house diesel locomotives with new‑energy alternatives. To date, five new‑energy locomotives have been successfully put into service. Under its medium- and long-term corporate plan, the company intends to allocate RMB 125 million by 2035 to fully transition its fleet of diesel locomotives to green‑energy propulsion, with a focus on establishing a modern railway operating system that is end‑to‑end sustainable, energy‑efficient, and zero‑carbon.

Yunnan serves as a key gateway for China’s opening-up to South Asia and Southeast Asia, enjoying a distinct locational advantage. The introduction of the “Xuan Kun” locomotive aligns closely with Yun Aluminum Logistics’ strategic goal of developing a 5A‑level smart, zero‑carbon industrial park. Leveraging its rare national railway transit qualifications, this locomotive not only meets the park’s needs for efficient internal logistics and intelligent shunting operations but also sets a benchmark, spurring multimodal transport across the Southwest region to reduce costs and boost efficiency. It will help keep regional international green logistics corridors open and unimpeded, providing robust support for the low‑carbon transformation and high‑quality development of the Southwest’s railway logistics sector.
