On October 18 local time, three locomotives from Wuhan Jinhuasheng Railway Locomotive Co., Ltd. arrived safely at the Port of Monrovia in Liberia after more than three months of transoceanic voyage. Just three days earlier, on October 15—three days before the locomotives' arrival—the capacity expansion and renovation project at Bangfeng Station on the Bangkuang Railway were successfully completed, paving the way for the new locomotives to begin operations promptly. This "steel caravan," which set sail from Tianjin Port, will now traverse the vast ocean to inject powerful "Chinese momentum" into Liberia's economic lifeline—the Bangkuang Railway—revitalizing this once-dormant railway line that connects mining areas with port facilities.

The three locomotives dispatched this time to Africa carry with them Wuhan Jinhuasheng's core mission: "enhancing transportation capacity and ensuring reliable delivery." As Liberia's key resource hub, the Bong Mine is renowned for its abundant iron ore reserves. In the current context of complex global dynamics and escalating trade tensions, these high-quality resources play an irreplaceable strategic role in safeguarding China's stable supply of iron ore and optimizing the structure of our resource imports.

As early as February of this year, the company's technical team initiated comprehensive preparatory work, conducting a thorough and in-depth "health check" on the locomotives. This included precision maintenance of core components, complete overhaul of the power systems, and even refreshing the exterior coatings to better suit the local climate. Every step was meticulously managed according to "zero-error" standards, ensuring that the locomotives would be fully prepared and ready to fulfill their mission overseas. Following the completion of customs clearance, assembly, debugging, and trial operations, these "steel guardians" will officially enter service, serving as the cornerstone supporting the upgrade of railway transportation capacity for Bangkuang Railway.

The fate of the Bong Mine Railway has always been closely tied to Liberia's resource transportation needs. Constructed by Germany in the 1950s, this railway once served as the sole "steel corridor" connecting Bong County's iron ore mines to Monrovia Port. However, due to years of civil war, prolonged neglect, and widespread theft and vandalism, the railway has faced a series of critical challenges: steel bridges have corroded, equipment has aged significantly, and railroad ties have decayed. As a result, this vital transportation artery was once on the verge of complete collapse.

The turnaround began in early 2023. Wuhan Jinhuasheng actively responded to the "Belt and Road" Initiative by assembling an elite technical team that traveled to Liberia, officially taking on the critical task of rehabilitating the Bangui-Mining Railway. Faced with multiple challenges, including severe shortages of local materials and inconsistent technical standards, the team innovatively adopted a hybrid approach—integrating "Chinese standards" with solutions tailored to local conditions. While strictly adhering to China's rigorous railway construction protocols, they also optimized construction techniques to align with the unique geological and climatic realities of the region. In just six months, this long-neglected railway was fully revitalized, successfully reopening for operation at one go. The project has amazed West Africa with its remarkable "China Speed," setting a new benchmark for overseas railway rehabilitation efforts.

After repairs, the Bangui Railway's annual transport capacity has surged from nearly zero to 1.5 million tons, instantly becoming the core channel for Liberia's resource exports. Today, Wuhan Jinhuasheng is steadily advancing its plan to double transport capacity, building on the established 1.5 million-ton annual throughput and continuously moving toward ambitious targets of 3 million and 6 million tons, thereby solidifying the logistical foundation for local economic development.

The far-reaching support provided by three locomotives is not only a key measure for Bangui Mining Railway to break through its transportation capacity and ensure the stable delivery of high-grade iron ore, but also plays a vital role in bolstering the security of China's iron ore resource supply amid today's complex international landscape.
