Health Support Bridges Unity, Sino-African Cooperation Writes a New Chapter—The 17th Chinese Medical Team Dispatched to Wuhan Jinhuasheng Overseas Project for Free Clinic Activities
Release time:2025-11-24
On November 23, local time, the campsite of the Liberia-Bong Mine Railway Project was filled with warmth. China's 17th medical team aiding Liberia visited the Liberian branch of Wuhan Jinhuasheng Railway Locomotive Co., Ltd., launching a special "Free Clinic & Health Outreach" event. The team provided health services to 20 Chinese construction workers, 20 employees from Liberia's Ministry of Transport, and local staff along the railway route—demonstrating the compassionate spirit of medical professionals and conveying heartfelt care from their home country, thereby injecting warm support into the enduring friendship between China and Africa.

Before the simple examination table, the medical team members were fully immersed in their work. Stethoscopes carefully captured the rhythm of hearts and lungs, while blood pressure monitors precisely recorded vital health metrics. Medical staff gently lifted eyelids to screen for tropical eye diseases, used headlamps to meticulously examine oral conditions, and occasionally communicated with employees—whether through translation or gestures—to inquire about their physical sensations. Though languages may differ, their caring gazes, warm smiles, and professional gestures have become the most genuine bridge of connection between Chinese and African builders.

“Being able to enjoy the professional services of our country’s medical team on African soil, far from home, is both reassuring and heartwarming!” Zhang Xin, General Manager of Liberia Branch, expressed the shared sentiment of Chinese employees. Local employee D. Chris emotionally added: “Our Chinese friends haven’t just helped us rebuild our railways and bring about development—they’ve also been constantly caring for our health. We’ll forever cherish this bond of friendship!”

The free medical consultation covers specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, and dentistry. The medical team tailored its services to address the common diseases prevalent in tropical regions, as well as the occupational risks associated with railway construction. Each patient received a personalized health assessment, comprehensive disease screening, and expert guidance on medication use. From demonstrations on tropical disease prevention to practical tips on workplace injury protection, and from distributing essential medicines to offering advice on managing chronic conditions—every word of advice and every hands-on demonstration was designed to bring warmth and care across mountains and seas. To ensure the effectiveness of their services, the medical team conducted thorough pre-consultation research into employees' health needs, meticulously planned the entire program, and brought along portable equipment and medications. As a result, they completed all medical examinations within a single day, empowering construction workers to build their health defenses through "early detection and timely intervention."

The Bong Mine Railway is a landmark project under the China-Africa joint initiative of the Belt and Road Initiative, embodying Liberia’s hopes for economic recovery. Originally constructed in the 1950s, this railway had nearly fallen into disuse due to years of conflict and neglect. In early 2023, Wuhan Jinhuasheng brought Chinese technology, standards, and equipment all the way to West Africa, innovatively adopting a "China Standard + Tailored Solutions" approach. Remarkably, the project was completed in just six months, reconnecting the entire line with breathtaking "Chinese speed" and breathing new life into this vital resource corridor. Today, the Bong Mine Railway—with an annual transport capacity of 1.5 million tons—has become Liberia’s “golden artery.” Three Chinese locomotives, specially delivered across the sea, now shuttle tirelessly day and night, showcasing the exceptional reliability of Chinese engineering while also writing a new chapter of win-win cooperation between China and Africa in advancing industrial capacity.

This free medical clinic is both a vivid demonstration of the Chinese medical team's commitment to humanitarian values in their overseas mission, and a concrete action taken by Wuhan Jinhuasheng to show care for its employees while deepening its presence in the African market. As a collaborating partner, the company meticulously planned the venue in advance, coordinated staff efforts, and provided full support to ensure the smooth execution of the event. Hu Guangjin, Chairman and General Manager of the company, personally sent a heartfelt letter from China to the medical team, expressing sincere gratitude: "The care from our motherland has always warmly embraced every overseas builder. This free clinic not only reflects the deep concern of the Party and the government, but also serves as a vibrant embodiment of the enduring friendship between China and Africa. The medical team members are not only compassionate angels dedicated to saving lives and healing the sick, but also friendly ambassadors who carry forward the bonds of mutual affection between China and Africa!"

With our original aspiration as firm as a rock and our mission firmly on our shoulders, Wuhan Jinhuasheng will continue to leverage the Bangui-Mine Railway as a vital link. While deepening infrastructure connectivity between China and Africa, we will also actively contribute to local efforts aimed at improving people's livelihoods. We will integrate health care and community philanthropy into every stage of our development, demonstrating through concrete actions the "Belt and Road" principle of "extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits." In this way, we will not only strengthen the enduring bond of China-Africa friendship through collaboration but also jointly write a new chapter of warmth and mutual support.
